As a Data Engineer II, you'll take ownership of critical data pipelines while driving technical excellence across Flexcar's data ecosystem. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mid-level data professional to lead meaningful technical initiatives, architect scalable solutions, and contribute alongside other engineers while working on complex challenges that directly shape our business strategy.
You'll serve as a data engineering leader within cross-functional teams, collaborating with product managers, marketing, finance, and operations to not only transform raw data into actionable insights but also define how we approach data engineering challenges across the organization.

You'll serve as a data engineering leader within cross-functional teams, collaborating with product managers, marketing, finance, and operations to not only transform raw data into actionable insights but also define how we approach data engineering challenges across the organization.
What will you do:
- Own the Data Foundation: Take full ownership of the development, streamlining, and maintenance of robust data pipelines that power Flexcar's business intelligence and analytics capabilities
- Create Curated Datasets: Design and implement clean, well-structured datasets that enable teams across the organization to make data-driven decisions with confidence
- Collaborate on Solutions: Work closely with fellow engineers to develop innovative, resource-efficient data solutions that scale with our growing business
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Research, evaluate, and implement new practices and technologies to maximize data engineering efficiency and effectiveness
- Optimize Performance: Support data warehouse performance optimization through efficient SQL query design and cost management strategies
- Expand Data Integration: Assist in building new pipelines to seamlessly move data from various web services and databases into our centralized data warehouse
- Ensure Data Security: Maintain the highest standards of data protection and security across all systems and processes
- Optimize System Performance: Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and implement sophisticated optimization strategies across data pipelines, warehouses, and analytical workloads
- Innovate and Research: Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies, conducting proof-of-concepts and driving adoption of new tools that enhance our data engineering capabilities
- Ensure Operational Excellence: Design and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response procedures for your data domains
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 4-6 years of progressive experience in data engineering with demonstrated growth in technical leadership and system ownership
- Advanced SQL Proficiency: Expert-level SQL skills, including complex query optimization, performance tuning, and database design principles for large-scale systems
- Systems Thinking: Proven ability to design and architect end-to-end data solutions that consider scalability, maintainability, and operational requirements
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong ability to work with non-technical stakeholders, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and communicate complex concepts clearly
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of medium to large-sized tasks from requirements gathering through completion with minimal supervision
- Data Architecture Expertise: Deep understanding of data modeling, pipeline design patterns, and modern data architecture principles, including data lakes, warehouses, and streaming systems
- Quality and Reliability Awareness: Proven track record of implementing comprehensive testing, monitoring, and data quality frameworks that ensure system reliability
- Continuous Innovation: History of researching and implementing new technologies, with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and drive adoption of best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Pipeline Orchestration: Extensive experience with Apache NiFi, Airflow, or similar tools, including complex workflow design and error handling
- Cloud Platform Expertise: Deep knowledge of AWS data services (Redshift, S3, Lambda, Glue, IAM) with experience in cost optimization and security best practices
- Modern Data Stack Proficiency: Advanced experience with DBT, including macro development, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies
- Analytics and Visualization: Experience building and maintaining complex dashboards and analytics solutions using tools like Sigma, Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for managing data infrastructure
- Performance Optimization: Experience with query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning in production environments
- Data Governance: Knowledge of data governance frameworks, privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), and compliance requirements
- DevOps Practices: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and deployment automation for data systems
